Few years ago, I had a role as a customer service officer in a condominium. The development had issues with the marble flooring. As a CSO, I had feedback to my upper management that the quality of the marble was not acceptable. However, the management had asked me to tell the owners that the condition of the marble is acceptable within industry standards. I told the management I cannot say that as if I were the owner, i would not agree that the marble would have a water stain for a few days. (I understand where this person is coming from. She needs to protect the company and it’s products and it’s tough when the company you represent do not want to acknowledge that their product is defective. But, she should take it as constructive feedback and look into the issue rather than just take whatever the upper management says to be right.)
Sometimes I wonder if it’s a Singaporean mentality where whatever the people(Government) says we listen. That we do not look deep into the matter and find solutions.
The problematic units under my care were immediately transferred to the Team Leader and the project team gave me the cold shoulder. Down the grapevine, the team had bad mouth my work ethics. Luckily, my contract was ending and I left that role.
I believe the universe will support you when you do the right thing. I found a job that paid me better in an evergreen industry. Although I had no experience, I was given an executive role. (Paid to learn on the job. Keke.)
Move forward 2 years from 2015. I heard from an owner of the development that the developer is finally listening to the owners and doing something to the marble. It must be stressful for the owners to have this dispute for 2 years.
